Materuni Waterfall is the highest and most impressive waterfall at the foothill of Mt. Kilimanjaro located at the Latitude. -3.25025° or 3° 15′ 1″ south; Longitude. 37.40007° or 37° 24′ 0″ east. On arrival at the village office your company guide will finish all formalities then you’ll take a beautiful 40 minutes hike through the hills and valleys route to the Materuni. The valleys and hills are covered by tropical rainforest, coffee plantation, banana and avocado “shambas”, the Kiswahili word for farms. On a clear day great view of Kibo and Moshi town can be seen during hiking. The hike to the base of the Waterfall can be demanding and hiking boots are recommended. Finally, you can refresh at the waterfall’s cold water, so don’t forget to bring your swim wear. After hiking You’ll visit a coffee place and learn about how coffee is grown, harvested and processed, and you’ll try your hand at roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee in the Chagga way. Then after all to finish you will finish with traditional cuisines served in the traditional clay pots that makes you to be close with the nature and culture of native people in the village.
After finish materuni village tour now you will proceed for 1 hour and 40 minutes to Chemka hot spring which is the natural pool with clear crystal water caused by geothermal heated spring. On arrival at the entrance gate you will register in the visitors book then you’ll proceed in to the pool for swimming and relaxation after long hiking day hence don’t forget to pack your swimming gears in your day trip backpack. After spent enough time in the pool you will drive heading back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
