Lake Chala Day Tour
Lake Chala Safari is a private game reserve located on the western slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, near the Kenya-Tanzania border. It is approximately a 2.5-hour drive from Moshi and 8 km from Taveta. The reserve is named after Lake Chala, a unique caldera lake, also known as Dschalla, with a depth of over 3,000 meters making it one of Africa’s deepest inland water bodies.
Upon arrival, our guide will take you to various viewpoints where you can explore the region’s diverse flora and fauna. You will then descend towards the lakeshore, passing through lush green vegetation with breathtaking views of the deep blue lake ahead. The lake’s crystal clear waters are home to a variety of fish, though swimming is not highly recommended.
The walk around the lake offers stunning scenery but can be a bit challenging. Along the way, you may encounter wildlife such as lizards, baboons, monkeys, and even snakes.
After your tour, you can unwind at the camp’s scenic bar overlooking the lake, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink while taking in the tranquil surroundings.
