The 6 Days Marangu route is one of the easiest and most popular trail in Kilimanjaro. The moderate slope makes it less difficult to climb. It’s the only route with huts, simple dining and rooms.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania and transfer to the hotel
Upon arrival in Tanzania via Kilimanjaro International airport (JRO), you will be picked up by a KLM Safaris staff member a KLM Safaris placard and transferred to Moshi town where you will spend your first night at a hotel.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After having your breakfast we will make a short journey from the hotel to Marangu National Park gate for the necessary formalities at the gate. Upon arrival, our experienced and loyal porters will organize all the baggage and other equipment for the climb, while you and your guides register with Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA). After all registration and other formalities are complete, you will start your trek through the fascinating tropical rain forest; we reach the first hut at Mandara for dinner and overnight.

The first part of the walk is a steep ascent through forest, but the path soon opens out into moorland and in clear weather, there are great views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. We arrive at Horombo Hut mid-afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery around the camp. Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

After breakfast, we hike to the Zebra Rocks and return. This extra day and night at Horombo is for additional acclimatization. We recommend drinking enough water and walking slowly! All meals for the day are provided at the Horombo hut.
Zone: Low alpine zone to High alpine zoneDay 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
After breakfast we climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The walking will be taken at a slow pace until we reach Kibo Hut (4,700m), where we will spend the night. The remainder of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent before beginning at 11:30 pm.

We start the final and most demanding part of the climb by headlamp around 11:30 pm. We walk very slowly in the darkness on a switchback trail through large boulders and loose volcanic scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman’s Point (5,685 meters). We rest here for a short time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make the three-hour round trip to Uhuru Peak (5895 meters), passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent to Kibo Hut is surprisingly fast and, after some refreshments, we continue the descent to Horombo Huts).

After breakfast and following the celebration, you will begin your descent from Mandara hut to Marangu Gate where TANAPA requires all hikers to sign the register. You will also receive a certificate of completion at this time. Hikers who reached Gillman's Point receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak receive gold certificates. Once all the formalities are completed you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.
